What Is Buspirone?

Buspirone is an anti-anxiety medication commonly prescribed for the management of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It is non-habit forming and does not typically cause the sedation or drowsiness commonly associated with other anti-anxiety medication. Although Buspirone is not generally used as a primary treatment for depression, individuals with both anxiety and depression may benefit from its calming effects on anxiety symptoms as part of their overall treatment plan. It has been shown in the landmark STAR-D trial to be a useful mood augmentation strategy.
